Gunnar Nicholson Gold Medal Award

Established in 1928, this is the highest honor that we can bestow upon an individual. The Gold Medal is granted to those who have made preeminent scientific and engineering achievements of proven applied benefit to the world’s pulp, paper, board, and forest product industries. The forest product industries include forestry, derived products, their process technology, and their applications.

The award is accompanied by a cash honorarium, which has been approximately $60,000 - $80,000 in recent years.

Herman L. Joachim Distinguished Service Award

Established in 1983, this honor is presented to an individual for exemplary leadership who has significantly contributed to the advancement of TAPPI.

The award is accompanied by a cash honorarium, which has been approximately $50,000 - $70,000 in recent years.

Paul W. Magnabosco Outstanding Local Section Member Award

This award was established to recognize an individual whose outstanding leadership and exceptional service to one or more Local Sections has resulted in significant and demonstrable benefits to members. 

The award is accompanied by a $2,500 cash honorarium. 

TAPPI PIMA Executive of the Year Award

This award presented to senior-level executives in the pulp, paper, or converting industries for excellence in management and outstanding contributions to the industry as a whole.

TAPPI Young Professionals of the Year Award

This award recognizes Young Professionals employed in the global forest products, pulp, paper, tissue, packaging, and associated industries for their contributions in the following areas: Leadership, Community Service, Problem Solving Contributions to Scientific or Engineering Projects. Eligible nominees are age 35 or younger, with no more than 10 years of industry experience, and been a TAPPI member for a minimum of one year.

TAPPI Fellows

TAPPI Fellows are selected members chosen in recognition of meritorious service to TAPPI and the industry. The title Fellow is also conferred upon TAPPI Board chairs, vice chairs, and directors at the end of their terms of office, as well as Gunnar Nicholson Gold Medal Awardees and Herman L. Joachim Distinguished Service Recipients.

TAPPI Woman of the Year Award

The Women in Industry Division’s Woman of the Year award recognizes women who have demonstrated excellence in leading, motivating, and developing others within the pulp, paper, tissue, packaging and related industries. She has had an impact on those around her and has motivated and developed others around her. 

Division Honors 

Our Divisions grant awards to individuals in recognition of outstanding accomplishments or contributions to the industry’s technology or TAPPI. Each Technical Division may grant no more than one award for technical achievement and one for leadership and service per year. Some awards also are accompanied by a cash prize.

The Division Leadership and Service Award is intended to recognize an individual for outstanding leadership and exceptional service to the awarding Division which have resulted in significant and demonstrable benefits to the Division's members.

The Division Technical Award is intended to recognize outstanding accomplishments or contributions, which have advanced the industry's technology in the awarding division's field of interest.

NANO

The Nanotechnology Division Mid-Career Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding accomplishments. Nominees for this award are judged on the following criteria: Research Contributions, Impact on People/Community, Contributions to TAPPI Nano Division, Publications/Patents, Research Funding, Professional Honors Received.

The Nanotechnology Division Student Technical Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding accomplishments. Nominees for this award are judged on the following criteria: Research Contributions, Impact on People/Community, Contributions to TAPPI Nano Division, Publications/Patents, Research Funding, and Honors and Awards received.

The Nanotechnology Division Technical Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding accomplishments. Nominees for this award are judged on the following criteria: Research Contributions, Impact on People/Community, Contributions to TAPPI Nano Division, Publications/Patents, Research Funding, Professional Honors Received and Technology Development and Implementation.

PIMA Division

The PIMA Leadership Award recognizes an individual who has best demonstrated outstanding leadership, management, and organizational skills leading to improved results for their team or company. Nominees for this award are judged on four criteria: skill in people development; application of best management practices; effective use of external resources; and change management.

The PIMA Division Leadership and Service Award recognizes an individual for outstanding leadership and exceptional service to the PIMA Division which have resulted in significant and demonstrable benefits to the Division's members.

The PIMA Innovator Award recognizes a member of a paper, paper converting, supplier or affiliate company who has best demonstrated outstanding innovative strategies, application of technology or other means leading to improved results at their facility or enterprise. 

The PIMA Student Leadership Award recognizes and supports an outstanding student leader who has best demonstrated outstanding leadership, management, and organizational skills. Nominees must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program. This individual shall demonstrate an intent to work in the industry post-graduation.

IRMC

The Research and Development Technical Award and William H. Aiken Prize is given for outstanding accomplishments or contributions which have advanced the technology of the paper and related industries in the field of research and development.
